Football Receives Honors After Winning Fourth Straight

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—The Samford football team has already garnered a few honors following its fourth-straight win Saturday at Western Carolina.

Samford junior running back Fabian Truss was named SouthernPigskin.com's Steak 'n Shake Southern Conference Offensive Player of the Week. In the win at WCU, Truss rushed for 180 yards and two touchdowns on 23 carries.

Truss had a 25-yard touchdown run in the third quarter to put Samford's first points on the scoreboard. He later scored the game-winning touchdown on a one-yard run with just 5:00 left in the fourth quarter.

In addition to Truss' honor, CollegeSportsMadness.com has ranked Samford 24th in the nation in its latest Division I-FCS Top 25 poll.

The official SoCon Players of the Week, and the Division I-FCS Sports Network and Coaches polls will be released on Monday.

The Bulldogs are 4-0 overall for the first time since 1995, and 2-0 in SoCon play for the first time since joining the league in 2008. This also marks the program's first four-game win streak since the Bulldogs won the final four games of the 1999 season.

Samford will remain on the road for the third-straight week when the Bulldogs play at Georgia Southern on Saturday, Sept. 29. The game is scheduled for a 5 p.m. (CT) start from Statesboro, Ga.
