Samford Takes Seven Events in Samford Multi Finale

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ----
Samford wrapped up competition at the Samford Multi on Saturday with a multitude of impressive finishes, including seven event wins.
 
In the multi events, Samford's decathletes took the top two spots with Bo-Ackerson Gilroy and Steven Bastien each earning new personal bests with 6,928 points and 6,823 points, respectively.  These totals rank second and third all-time at Samford, only trailing Brandon Bassett's school-record point total of 7,040 set at the 2011 SoCon Championships.  In the women's heptathlon, Christian McGuire finished second with a point total of 4,492.
 
Samford swept the men's and women's 800 meters, with Katelyn Brock beating the field with a time of 2:17.00 while Brandon Hazouri won the men's competition with a personal-best time of 1:53.84.  Samford took the top four spots in the women's 400-meter hurdles, with Danielle Blanco (1:02.11) and Marie Demedicis (1:03.42) in the top two spots, both earning new PRs.
 
The Bulldogs also swept the 1,600-meter relays.  Blanco, Leslie Graf, Kimberly Ruch and Ashley Bridenbaugh took the women's competition in 3:57.79 while Jonathon Bush, Justin Emerson, John Gayle and Henry Stevens-Carty won the men's side in 3:21.11.  Chenelle Terry was Samford's seventh event champion of the day, winning the women's high jump with a mark of 5-7.75 (1.72m).
 
Katelyn Poole tied her personal-best mark from last weekend, which is also a school record, by finishing fourth in Saturday's competition with a distance of 42-4 (12.90m).  Samford placed second and third in the men's 1,500 meters, with Adam Jones edging out Layton Dorsett in 3:59.08, a new personal-best for the freshman, while Dorsett finished in 3:59.90.  Emerson had a pair of top-three finishes, placing second in the 100-meter dash (10.78) and third in the 200-meter dash (21.97).
 
Claire Goodson, competing unattached, won Saturday's pole vault with a height of 11-1.75 (3.65m) while Ashley Cope and Laura Bedsole tied for second with identical heights of 11-5.75 (3.50m).  On the men's side, Owen Wagoner placed second in 15-11 (4.85m), clearing the same height as the event winner but taking more turns to do so.
 
Other top-five finishers Saturday include Tyler Kemp (2nd, 6-8, 2.03m) and Bob Elliot II (4th, 6-6.75, 2.00m) in the men's high jump, James Graham in the men's steeplechase (3rd, 9:57.77), Lauren D'Alessio in the women's 1,500 meters (4th, 4:39.37), Shelby Builta in the women's discus (4th, 134-10, 41.09m), Cope in the 100-meter hurdles (5th, 14.41) and Stevens-Carty in the men's 400-meter dash (5th, 49.97).
