BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford University track and field team hits the road for the first time this season to compete in the JDL Hilton Garden Invitational and the Camel City Elite on Friday, Jan. 31 and Saturday, Feb. 1, at the JDL Fast Track in Winston Salem, N.C.

Head Coach Rod Tiffin believes that with this being the first road trip of the season and having a chance to compete at the JDL Fast Track; it will provide a good measuring stick as to where the team is as the SoCon Indoor Championships quickly approach.

"We haven't hit the road so far this season," Tiffin explained. "So this will be a great chance to prepare for what we will encounter heading to and competing on the same track as our conference meet will be held."

This competition is not just a chance to get a feel for the track where the SoCon Indoor Championships will be held according to Tiffin, but these two events will play host to some of the top runners in the country.

"I can't wait to see how these athletes will respond while racing some of the top runners in the country," Tiffin said.

The Camel City Elite invited three Bulldogs to compete on Feb. 1, in two events with a field of runners that consist of Olympians, NCAA Champions and NAIA Champions. Sophomore Brandon Hazouri and Junior Nathan Hendershot will run in the 800m; both have a personal best time of 1:49 going into the event.  Lauren D'Alessio will compete in the 3000m event and enters with a personal best of 9:27.

The JDL Hilton Garden Invitational events start at 11 a.m. and last all day and the last event will start on Feb. 1, at 3:30 p.m.
