AUBURN, Ala. –
With two weeks until the conference championships, Samford had a multitude of strong performances at the Tiger Track Classic, hosted by Auburn University, highlighted by a new school record by Katelyn Poole in the women's shot put.

Poole improved on her own school record, finishing 10th in Saturday's competition with a best distance of 43-9.75 (13.35m).  The mark further cements her spot at the top of the all-time Samford performance list and moves her into the top five in the SoCon so far this season.

Danielle Blanco improved her personal best time in the 400-meter hurdles, placing 10th in 1:01.52.  This moves her closer to the Samford school record of 1:01.15, set by Morgan Tyler in 2008.  In the men's 1,500 meters, Brandon Hazouri claimed his spot in Samford's all-time top ten by winning the event in 3:54.07, which ranks fifth all-time.

Samford's two competitors in the women's steeplechase vaulted themselves into the Samford all-time performance list as well.  Rachel Wooten placed fifth (11:16.51) while Margaret Grogan placed 13th (12:55.19), which puts them fifth and 10th all-time at Samford, respectively.  In the men's 1,600-meter relay, the team of Henry Stevens-Carty, Josh Davies, Jonathon Bush and Cody Russell placed 11th in 3:17.92, which ranks fourth all-time at Samford.

Friday night, Ashley Cope won the open section of the women's javelin, throwing a best distance of 121-2 (36.93m).  This is a new personal best for the junior and moves her to fifth on Samford's all-time performance list.  She was the top Bulldog finisher in a pair of events Saturday as well, finishing 13th in the pole vault (12-3.5, 3.75m) and 12th in the 100-meter hurdles (14.11).

Other top-ten finishers during the weekend include Chenelle Terry in the high jump (2nd, 5-5.75, 1.67m), Shelby Builta in the open hammer throw (4th, 152-0, 46.33m), Holly Benson in the 1,500 meters (5th, 4:43.82), Owen Wagoner (6th, 16-0.75, 4.90m) and Ryan Cook (8th, 15-7, 4.75m) in the pole vault, Lucas Sieb in the 3,000 meters (9th, 9:03.42), Layton Dorsett in the 800 meters (10th, 1:52.46) and the men's 400-meter relay team of Riley Hawkins, Justin Emerson, Zachary Randall and Bush (9th, 42.37).

Samford will take a week off from competition in preparation for the 2013 SoCon Outdoor Championships, beginning Saturday, April 20 and running through Sunday, April 21.  The men's and women's teams will look to improve on their third place finishes from last season while Cope and Wagoner will look to defend their individual titles.
