GREENSBORO, N.C. – Samford sent six qualifiers to the NCAA East Regional this week in Greensboro, N.C., though none were able to earn a bid to the NCAA Championships, spelling a premature end to the season.
Lauren D'Alessio placed the highest of any of Samford's competitors, crossing the line 20th in the women's 5,000 meters in 16:34.92. She placed 11th in her heat in a very competitive field where the cutoff time for a qualifying spot ended up at 16:07.70.
Brandon Hazouri turned in an impressive time in Wednesday's preliminary round of the men's 800 meters, finishing sixth in 1:49.42. This time woudl have advanced him to Thursday's semifinals, however a post-race protest accused him of impeding another runner and he was subsequently disqualified.
Owen Wagoner tied for 22nd in the men's pole vault, matching his season-best mark at 16-6.75 (5.05m), which placed him sixth in his flight. In the women's pole vault,
Ashley Cope placed 33rd overall and eighth in her flight at 12-7.5 (3.85m).
In the men's high jump,
Bob Elliot II placed 23rd and set a new personal best with a mark of 6-10.75 (2.10m), while
Chenelle Terry placed 34th in the women's high jump in 5-7.75 (1.72m).
