SAN ANTONIO -- The Samford University soccer team will look to win its first road match of the 2013 season Sunday at 1 p.m. (CDT) as the Bulldogs square off against the UTSA Roadrunners in a pivotal non-conference matchup to be held at the Park West Athletics Complex (1,000).

Samford (2-2) heads into the contest looking to rebound from a hard-fought 2-0 loss at Texas on Friday. The defeat snapped the Bulldogs' two-match winning streak, which featured historic victories against Southeastern Conference foes Tennessee, 1-0, and Auburn, 1-0.

Both of Samford's losses this season have occurred on the road. In Friday's setback versus Texas, the Longhorns scored both of their goals early in the first half. Similarly, in the Bulldogs' identical 2-0 season-opening loss at Memphis, the Lady Tigers also tallied both of their scores in the first period.

Samford's Malcanisha Kelley currently leads the Bulldogs with two goals scored this season. A true freshman from Childersburg, Ala., Kelley is also leading Samford in shot attempts (14), shots on goal (5) and game-winning goals (2).

Another true freshman, Katie Peters, has started in goal for all four of the Bulldogs' matches this season. Peters was a highly-touted recruit from Greenfield, Ind., and has already secured two shutouts in her up-and-coming collegiate career.

UTSA (1-4) enters Sunday's matchup with aspirations of snapping a two-game losing streak. Since earning a shutout victory against Sam Houston State on Aug. 30, the Roadrunners have dropped back-to-back outings versus Lamar, 3-1, and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, 2-1.

In Friday's heartbreaking loss to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, the Islanders' Yvette Franco scored a pair of second-half goals to earn a 2-1 victory against UTSA at the Park West Athletics Complex. The Roadrunners outshot the Islanders, 21-4, and controlled the ball for much of the match, but managed just one goal, which came off the foot of freshman Brianna Livecchi in the 76th minute.

Meanwhile, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi did not get a shot against the UTSA defense until the second half, but Franco's fourth and fifth goals of the season gave the young program its first victory of the season. Audrey Baldwin chipped in with eight saves in goal.

UTSA opened its 2013 campaign with back-to-back matches against top 15 nationally-ranked opponents in No. 13 Baylor and No. 12 Texas A&M. After suffering a lopsided 5-0 setback at Baylor on Aug. 23, the Roadrunners fought valiantly against Texas A&M in a hard-fought 1-0 loss on Aug. 25.

UTSA has been outscored 11-3 this season with the Roadrunners' trio of goals being scored by Taylor Wingerden, Anissa Munson and Livecchi.

Sunday's meeting will be Samford's first all-time contest versus UTSA.

Following its key non-conference match at UTSA, the Samford University soccer team will next be in action Friday at 7 p.m. (CDT) as the Bulldogs return to the Samford Track and Soccer Stadium for a highly-anticipated home matchup against the Vanderbilt Commodores.
