SAN ANTONIO -- The Samford University soccer team posted a dominant 2-0 shutout victory against the UTSA Roadrunners Sunday in a key non-conference contest held at the Park West Athletics Complex (1,000). The win proved to be the Bulldogs' third shutout of the young 2013 campaign, as well as their first road triumph.

Abbott's game-winning score came in the 18
th minute and was assisted by both
Anna Allen and
Michelle Moll. Georgi's unassisted second-half goal occurred in the 52
nd minute and proved to be the first of her budding collegiate career.
The Bulldogs' true freshman goalkeeper
Katie Peters registered a pair of critical saves Sunday and tallied the third shutout of her promising rookie campaign. Peters, a native of Greenfield, Ind., owns a stellar 0.80 goals-against average this season.

UTSA (1-5) dropped its third straight decision and fell to 1-2 when playing at home in 2013. Since earning a shutout victory against Sam Houston State on Aug. 30, the Roadrunners have dropped consecutive outings to Lamar, 3-1, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, 2-1, and Samford, 2-0.
UTSA was paced offensively by Laylla Da Cruz, who rattled off a team-high three shot attempts, but the Roadrunners were outnumbered in corner kicks by the Bulldogs, 9-3.
Samford outshot UTSA, 12-10, and also finished with six shots on goal, as compared to just two by the Roadrunners. The Bulldogs' shutout triumph Sunday occurred in the first all-time meeting between the teams.
Samford will next be in action Friday at 7 p.m. (CDT) as the Bulldogs return to the Samford Track and Soccer Stadium for a highly-anticipated home matchup against the Vanderbilt Commodores.
