GREENSBORO, N.C. -- The Samford University soccer team will attempt to extend its road winning streak to four-consecutive matches Sunday as the Bulldogs square off against the UNCG Spartans at 1 p.m. (CDT) in a momentous Southern Conference contest to be held at the UNCG Soccer Stadium.

Samford (8-6, 3-1 SoCon) enters the match riding the positive momentum of a lopsided 5-0 triumph over the VMI Keydets on Friday.

On a rainy, overcast afternoon at Patchin Field, Samford extended its road winning streak to three-consecutive matches in its first all-time meeting against new conference foe VMI.

In its offensive barrage against the Keydets, Samford received a pair of goals each from seniors Amanda Abbott and Katie Danehy, as well as a score from junior Hallie Georgi. The Bulldogs dominated the pace of play throughout the contest and outshot VMI by a count of 33-5.

Samford also earned an 11-3 advantage on corner kicks and won the shots-on-goal battle by a significant 16-1 margin.

Since dropping a 2-0 decision at Lipscomb on Sept. 14, the Bulldogs have rattled off consecutive road victories against Austin Peay, 3-1, Chattanooga, 3-0, and VMI, 5-0.

UNCG (7-4-3, 3-0-1 SoCon) enters Sunday's matchup as one of only two undefeated teams in the SoCon. The Spartans are in the midst of a seven-match undefeated streak and have outscored the opposition, 24-5, in their last seven outings.

Since losing to East Carolina on Sept. 12, 1-0, UNCG has earned victories against High Point, 3-0, James Madison, 1-0, The Citadel, 4-1, VMI, 4-1, and Chattanooga, 9-0. The Spartans have also played to ties against NC State, 2-2, and Mercer, 1-1.

On Friday, UNCG blasted Chattanooga, 9-0, to hand the Mocs their worst loss of the season.

Junior Chesney White finished the match with her first career hat trick and added an assist in the contest. White added to her career high with 13 goals on the season. Sophomore Katelyn Mountjoy scored her first goal of the season and dished out three assists in the victory.

Sunday's match will feature the eighth all-time meeting between Samford and UNCG. The Spartans currently hold a 4-2-1 advantage in the series and are coming off back-to-back wins against the Bulldogs.

Last season, the teams also played in Greensboro and UNCG earned a 3-0 home victory. The Spartans received a pair of goals from Katie Durst, and another from Ashley Stokes in its 3-0 victory. Samford outshot UNCG, 14-9, but the Spartans outnumbered the Bulldogs in corner kick opportunities, 7-0.

UNCG goalkeeper Jamie Simmons registered six saves on 14 shots faced. The Bulldogs' Dale Steinagle concluded the match with one stop.

Following Sunday's key road test at UNCG, the Samford University soccer team will next be in action Friday at 6 p.m. (CDT) as the Bulldogs continue their arduous four-match road swing with a huge SoCon showdown at Furman. Friday's contest against the two-time defending champions will be held at Furman's Eugene E. Stone III Stadium.
