BIRMINGHAM, Alabama – The Samford University volleyball team returns home to put its 10-game win streak on the line against two Southern Conference opponents. The Bulldogs face SoCon newcomer East Tennessee State University on Friday, Oct. 24, at 7 p.m. and UNCG on Saturday, Oct. 25, at 2 p.m.
The Bulldogs (14-7, 8-0 SoCon) will first put its 10-game win streak on the line against the ETSU Buccaneers (11-13, 5-3 SoCon) at home inside the Pete Hanna Center. This will be Samford's first time to ever face the team that hails out of Johnson City, Tennessee.
The Buccaneers will provide a unique challenge for the Bulldogs offense as ESTU boasts two of the SoCon's best blockers in Meredith Hardy and Khadija Wiley who both average around one block per set.
Katie Muey also represents ETSU as the league's dig leader with 479 digs (5.26 d/p/s).
The Bulldogs however are a well balanced team that has shown they grit and grind out tough matches against some of the conference's best competitors. Providing that leadership are seniors
Chelsi Carter and
Michaela Reesor as both lead the SoCon in service aces (41) and kills per set (3.60) respectively.
SU will face UNCG the following day as they continue the backend of the conference schedule. The Bulldogs faced off against the Spartans earlier this season on Oct. 10, and emerged with a 3-1 victory on UNCG's home court.
Reesor and sophomore
Erin Bognar led the way in the win with Bognar tallying 13 kills with Reesor following up with 12 of her own. Carter notched 19 digs in the match to go along with four service aces.
Samford holds a healthy 9-2 all-time record over UNCG.
