BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Samford senior defensive lineman Brinson Porter was named to the Capital One Academic All-District team, when the team was released by the College Sports Information Directors of American (CoSIDA) this week.
 
Porter, an Atlanta native, has seen action in all eight games so far this season, including six starts. He has nine tackles and two sacks on the season. Academically, Porter has a 3.65 grade-point average, majoring in finance.
 
Porter came to Samford as a walk-on, but has worked his way into the starting lineup. Prior to this season, Porter was awarded the Charles Williams Memorial Jersey. The jersey, the number five, is given each year to a senior leader on the team.
 
Porter and the Bulldogs will host Western Carolina Saturday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. at Seibert Stadium. The game will be televised live on the American Sports Network and can be seen in the Birmingham area on CW21 WTTO.
