'Dogs Set to Compete in Cupid Classic

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford University track and field team will take part in the Cupid Classic hosted by the University of Southern Mississippi at the Birmingham CrossPlex on Friday, Feb. 14.

The one day event is set to begin at 11 a.m. with the women's weight throw and the men's 60-m hurdles.

The Bulldogs are poised to have another good showing on Friday after several impressive meet performances over the past couple of weeks.

Last week in the Samford Multi and Invitational, senior Lauren D'Alessio and junior Nathan Hendershot captured first place finishes in the women's mile and the men's 800m events. D'Alessio posted a time of 4:50.83 while Hendersot tallied a time of 1:52.02.

In the women's 800m, sophomore Anna Laura Irvine notched a personal best time of 2:10.60 to finish second.

Freshman Aerial Horton rounded out the list of top finishes and placed seventh in the women's shot put with a throw of 13.41m.

Junior Sidney Jordan highlighted the list of Bulldogs who competed well in the field events. Jordan placed sixth and seventh respectively in the shot put (15.25m) and weight-throw (16.25m) competitions.

Jordan was also named this week's SoCon Men's Field Athlete of the Week.
