BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—Games at TCU and Auburn highlight the Samford football team's 2014 schedule, released by head coach Pat Sullivan on Friday.
 
The Bulldogs open the season at TCU on Aug. 30, and they close the season at Auburn on Nov. 22.
 
"This will be great exposure for our kids and our program," Sullivan said. "It just worked out where we were able to play both of them this year. I know our players are looking forward to it."
 
Sullivan served as the head coach at TCU from 1992 to 1997, leading the program to a Southwest Conference title in 1994. Sullivan was the starting quarterback at Auburn from 1969 to 1971, earning the 1971 Heisman Trophy, among many other honors.
 
"It's the 20^th Anniversary of our conference championship out at TCU," Sullivan said. "So, I know a lot of the former players are coming back. Of course, I still have a lot of ties at Auburn as well."
 
After opening the season at TCU, Samford will play its first home game of the season against Stillman College on Thursday, Sept. 11. The Bulldogs will then play host to Southern Conference newcomer VMI for the team's SoCon opener on Sept. 20.
 
"Our league is going to be as tough as it always is," Sullivan said. "So, we have our work cut out for us, just like we do every year."
 
Samford will then go back out on the road to play at SoCon rival Chattanooga on Sept. 27. The team will then return home to host another SoCon newcomer, Mercer, on Oct. 4.
 
After an off week, Samford will host Wofford on Oct. 18, and then play at Furman on Oct. 25. The Bulldogs will then step out of conference play for Samford's 2014 Homecoming game. Samford will host Concordia College for Homecoming on Nov. 1 at Seibert Stadium.
 
Samford will play its final home game of the season on Nov. 8, when the Bulldogs host Western Carolina. Samford will play its final two regular-season games on the road, playing at The Citadel on Nov. 15, and at Auburn on Nov. 22.
