Bulldogs Cruise Past Jaguars

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 BATON ROUGE, La. – Two more Samford University single-season records fell as the Bulldogs swept the Southern University Lady Jaguars 9-0 and 19-2 at Lady Jaguar Field on Tuesday, March 25.

Samford (24-8, 2-3 SoCon) blew past the school's single-season RBI record of 185 in game one and eclipsed the single season run record of 209 in game two; both records were set in 2008. The team now sits with 217 runs scored and 209 RBIs on the season.

GAME ONE (Samford – 9, Southern – 0)
In game one freshman pitcher Jessica Stone (2-0) tossed a complete-game no-hit shutout against the Lady Jaguars (1-25); it was the fourth shutout of the season.

The Samford offense posted its first run of the contest in the top of the first inning when Callie Brister reached on an error by the second baseman which allowed Abby Adams to score from second.

Brister finished the day 5 of 6 (.833) with a double, four RBIs, six runs scored and two walks in the two games against Southern.

With two outs senior Arica Dykes drew a walk to get the top of the second inning started for the 'Dogs. Abbie Miranda then doubled down the left field line to drive in Dykes while Megan Dowdy drove in Miranda on a single to left field in the next at-bat. Caitlin Bice ended the scoring effort with base hit to right field to put Samford on top 4-0.

Miranda tallied four hits with three doubles, three runs scored and one RBI in the two games.

The Bulldogs tacked on another run in the third and put the game out of reach in the fifth with a four run inning to go up 9-0.

GAME TWO (Samford – 19, Southern – 2)
Samford outdid its game one offensive production and tallied 19 runs on 20 hits and recorded 17 RBIs en route to the victory.

Brister, who went 1 for 2 in game one, went a perfect 4 for 4 at the plate with four RBIs and four runs scored. Shelby Scott and Caitlin Bice followed suit as each recorded three hits in game two. Scott notched a five RBI performance while Bice tallied three RBIs.

Miranda, Holly Adkins, Caroline Seay, Madison Dickey picked up a pair of hits apiece in the game with Seay scoring three runs and two RBI and Dickey drove in two runs with two RBIs.

Adams and Dowdy each recorded one hit in game two.

Freshman pitcher Rebecca Leonard picked up the complete-game win in game two and improved to 3-1 on the season.

Samford returns to action on Wednesday, March 26, to take on Southeastern Conference opponent Mississippi State University in Starkville, Miss. With first-pitch set for 6 p.m.
