'Dogs Use Five Home Run Inning In Win Over Aggies

Grey Adams pitched a complete-game two hit shutout.
Box Score GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Samford University softball team pounded North Carolina A&T 18-0 on Friday, April 25, at the Lady Aggies Softball Complex. SU belted six home runs in the contest with five of them during the fifth inning alone en route to the victory.

Sophomore Caroline Wilder led the way offensively for the Bulldogs as she crushed two home runs in three at bats during the contest and accounted for five RBI and three runs scored.

Samford quickly jumped out a 4-0 lead in the top of the first and tacked on two more runs in the second to extend it's lead out to 6-0 over A&T.

The big inning came in the fourth when SU accounted for 12 runs off of a series of hits that included five home runs from the bats of Wilder, sophomore Megan Dowdy, junior Abby Adams, junior Rachel Bickert and senior Arica Dykes. Dowdy and Bickert's home runs were their first of the season while also Dowdy's was the first of her collegiate career and Bickert's came on her birthday.

The Bulldogs not only performed well at the plate as freshman Grey Adams pitched a complete-game two-hit shutout against an A&T team that had yet to be shutout so far this season.

Adams tallied seven strikeouts in the contest as well.

Dowdy also tied the Samford single-season record for stolen bases after she picked up two in the contest to bring her season total to 20.

Sophomore Caitlin Bice was the only Bulldog that was perfect at the plate in the contest as she went 3 for 3 with two RBI and two runs scored.

Samford returns to action tomorrow at noon against Southern Conference opponent Elon University for a double header.
