SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Southern Conference has announced its track and field athletes of the week with Samford's Sydney Jordan claiming the men's field athlete of the week honor.

The Mobile, Ala. native claimed the award after his performance at the Tiger Track Classic hosted by Auburn University in Auburn, Ala. Jordan posted a sixth place finish in shot put with a throw of 15.08m; the throw also serves as the top SoCon time and broke the school record set by teammate Brian Smith earlier in the year.

Jordan also placed 11th in the discus throw (45.18m) and 14^th in the hammer throw (46.99m).

The Samford University track and field team returns to action this weekend at the Border Wars hosted by the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, Ala.
