BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- The Samford University Athletic Department is heartbroken at the loss of Shauna Yelton on Wednesday afternoon.
 
"It is with a very heavy heart that I share with you the news that Todd Yelton's beautiful wife Shauna passed away Wednesday afternoon and is now present with the Lord," said Samford director of athletics Martin Newton. "There are no adequate words to express the sadness we feel for Todd. There also are no words sufficient to express our gratitude for Shauna's life."
 
Yelton, who was the long-time Director of Health Services at Samford University, was battling the effects of cervical cancer.
 
"Please join me in praying for Todd, their daughter MacKenzie, their son Colin, his brother Jay, extended family, and our women's soccer team," said Newton. 
 
The memorial service will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. (CST) at Dawson Memorial Baptist Church.
