Track & Field Set For Pair Of Weekend Meets

HILLTOP TWILIGHT CLASSIC - LIVE RESULTS
PEPSI FLORIDA RELAYS - LIVE RESULTS - LIVE VIDEO

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. –
The Samford University track and field teams gear back up for fierce outdoor competition and this week the teams will be splitting up as some will compete in the Hilltop Twilight Classic hosted by Birmingham Southern while others will travel to Gainesville, Florida to compete in the Pepsi Florida Relays on April 3-4.

The Bulldogs have been on a two-week break but look to quickly jump back into form with these two meets. The last time Samford competed was in the John Mitchell Alabama Relays hosted by the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.

The first event for the Pepsi Florida Relays is set to begin at noon with the women's hammer throw while the one-day Hilltop Twilight Classic will start at 12:30 p.m. with the women's shot put and will wrap up competition with the men's and women's 4x400 meters at 6:05 p.m.

SU had plenty of top performances but only one first-place finish in the star studded meet. Redshirt freshman Tray Oates captured first place in the men's pole vault with a personal record and school-record tying jump of 5.30m (17-4 ½ ) while freshman Gavin Gautreau took third after he cleared a height of 5.05m (16-6 ¾). Both Oates and Gautreau will be at the Pepsi Florida Relays along with Austin Eckenroth to compete in the men's pole vault.

The Samford women will be represented in the women's distance medley relay team by freshman Sarah Sanford, freshman Karisa Nelson, redshirt junior Anna Laura Irvine and senior Marie Demedicis. Each of those will also compete in other various individual events during the meet.

Senior Sidney Jordan and freshman Keyth Fightmaster will round out Samford's efforts in the men's field events in Florida as Jordan will compete in the men's discus and Fightmaster will look to better his school-record mark in the men's high jump.

The Pepsi Florida Relays will be broadcast live via the SEC Network + which can be located on WatchESPN.com
