YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio.—The 23
rd-ranked Samford football team will open play in the 2016 Division I-FCS Playoffs by playing at 13
th-ranked Youngstown State Saturday at Stambaugh Stadium.

Samford finished the regular season with a record of 7-4 overall and 5-3 in Southern play. The Bulldogs are coming off a 15-14 loss at East Tennessee State last Saturday.
Youngstown State is currently 8-3 overall and 6-2 in Missouri Valley games. The Penguins are coming off a 65-20 win at Missouri State on Saturday.
Samford and Youngstown State are meeting for the fourth time, with YSU holding a 3-0 advantage in the series. The first meeting was also an FCS Playoff game, as Youngstown State defeated Samford, 10-0 in the semifinals of the 1991 playoffs. The teams also had regular-season matchups in 1993 and 2002, with the Penguins claiming victories in both meetings.
