Abbie Miranda accounted for a pair of RBIs while freshman
Hannah Trombley smashed her fourth career home run.
The Bulldogs (5-6) missed on opportunities early in the contest as the team left the bases loaded in the 1
st inning of play after reaching base on a pair of walks from
Megan Dowdy and
Callie Brister while
Caroline Wilder was also hit by the pitch.
In the 2
nd inning Samford left
Lexie Higgins stranded at third base but rebounded in the 3
rd inning to break onto the scoreboard via an RBI sacrifice fly from Miranda. The sacrifice fly scored
Shelby Maze who reached earlier in the inning on an error out at first base.
Samford found itself in a hole after giving up three runs in the top of the 4
th inning. The Raiders scored three unearned runs after an error by Higgins at short stop scored the first and a double to right center scored the other pair.
Trombley closed the gap back down to a single run with her seventh consecutive extra base hit of the season which went down as a home run over the wall in left field.
The Raiders scored seven more runs throughout the next three innings play to give themselves a cushion that the Bulldogs could not overcome.
Miranda closed down the gap to 10-3 with a two-out single to left field that scored Brister from third but that was all the Bulldogs could muster offensively.
Jessica Stone was the pitcher of record for the Bulldogs as she now sits at 2-2 on the season.
