AUBURN, Ala. – The Samford University track and field program trekked to compete in the Auburn University Tiger Track Classic on April 8-9, at Hutsell-Rosen Track.
The Bulldogs posted a bevy of Top 10 finishes which was highlighted by
Tray Oates taking 3
rd overall in the men's pole vault (5.20m) and
Sarah Sanford placing 4
th in the women's 100-meter hurdles (13.53).
Sanford also turned in a personal best in the 400 meters with a time of 54.97 to place 10
th overall.
Javion Lee jumped his way to a 6
th place finish in the men's triple jump (14.95m) while
Marquis Barnes stuck a 6.98m leap in the men's long jump to come away with an 8
th place result.
For the women,
Kimberly Ruch,
Karisa Nelson and
Emma Garner all tallied Top 10 finishes for the Bulldogs in their respected events. Ruch notched an 8
th place finish with a personal best time of 11.92 in the women's 100 meters while Nelson tabbed a 7
th place finish in the women's 800 meter run with a Samford Top 10 and personal best time of 2:09.09.
Garner rounded out the performances with a Samford Top 10 time of her own in the women's 1,500 meters as she took 8
th place with a personal best time of 4:36.21.
In the women's 100 meters Ruch was accompanied by a pair of Bulldog standout performances as Tonia McKinley and
Daijah White etched their names in the Samford Top 10 with times of 12.11 (15
th) & 12.30 (24
th) respectively.
Several more women turned in impressive finishes on the weekend for the Bulldogs as
Tatiana Taylor took 24
th place in the women's hammer throw with a heave of 47.31m and
Kaitlin West placed 20
th in the javelin with a mark of 28.98m. Both marks vaulted the pair into the Samford Top 10.
Other Notable Performances- Tiana Pisoni placed 19th overall in the women's triple jump with a mark of 11.41m.
- Luke Weishaar, Paul Richardson & Ben Bryant placed 15th (15:00.11), 20th (15:14.40) & 21st (15:15.13) in the men's 5,000 meters.
- Owen Bailey crushed is old personal best in the men's 1,500 meters with a 22nd place finish time of 4:01.81. His old mark stood at 4:39.31.
- Brian Smith and Brian Hill cracked the top 20 in the men's shot put. Smith (16th – 14.55m) and Hill (20th – 13.73m)
- Ansley Bos raced her way to a 22nd place finish in the women's 800 meters with a time of 2:12.94 and climbed into the Samford Top 10.
