POOLER, Ga.—The Samford University women's golf team will compete in the 2016 Southern Conference Championship, set for April 10-12, at Savannah Quarters (par 72, 6,116 yards) in Pooler, Ga.
The tournament will begin Sunday at 7 a.m. (CT). The teams will play 18 holes each on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday, with the winner of the event earning the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Regionals.
During the 2015-16 regular season, Samford has been led by freshman
Anna Buchanan, with a stroke average of 76.34 in 29 rounds. Fellow freshman
Emily Uhland has a 76.36 average in 28 rounds of work. Another freshman,
Crockett Floyd has a 78.76 stroke average, having played 17 rounds.
Junior
Haley Harrington has a 79.12 average in 26 rounds, while redshirt freshman
Madeline Davis averages a 79.31, having played 26 rounds. Sophomore
Kate Collom averages 80.23 in 26 rounds, while sophomore
Haley Wagner has a stroke average of 81.06 in 17 rounds.
The Bulldogs have posted their two best performances in the SoCon Championship over the last two years. The team finished third in the event each of the last two seasons, and in the 2015 event, the Bulldogs shot their lowest score of any SoCon Championship, with a three-day total of 881 (299-290-292).
Furman won the 2015 tournament, with a score of 858 (289-284-285), while Chattanooga placed second, just one stroke ahead of Samford at 880 (294-288-298).
Furman's Taylor Totland earned individual medalist honors last season at 208 (71-69-68). Samford was led by
Bailey Gray, tying for sixth at 217 (76-68-73).
Samford has just two players back this season that saw action in last season's SoCon Championship. Harrington placed 20
th in the event at 226 (74-75-77), and Collom finished 35
th with a score of 235 (79-82-74).
