BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Samford Sr. Associate Director of Athletics for External Affairs
Bo Kerr announced today a new multi-year radio agreement with Birmingham's 99.1 FM The Game.
"Our partnership with 99.1 The Game will provide our athletic department with greater exposure and our listeners with a larger coverage area for our football and men's basketball broadcasts," Kerr said. "Being partnered with a locally owned radio station that is dedicated to sports talk with an emphasis on local sports is important to us as we focus on engaging the community."
Beginning this fall, all Samford football and men's basketball games will be heard on 99.1 The Game.
"99.1 The Game is pleased to be the Birmingham radio home for Samford football and men's basketball. We hope to serve the alumni and fans of Samford University with quality content in what we hope is a very successful athletic year for Samford," Lyle Reynolds, Manager for 99.1 The Game, said. "Samford is a natural fit to add to our lineup of sports programing which now includes the Atlanta Falcons, Smashmouth Radio Show with co-hosts Scott Griffin and Pat Smith, and Homewood High School athletics."
With the announcement, Samford athletics will expand its coverage area throughout the Birmingham metro area. In addition, the partnership will also allow for a range of marketing and promotional opportunities with the station. Samford University's owned-and-operated WVSU 91.1 FM will continue to serve as the broadcast home for Samford women's basketball and baseball.
Samford Director of Broadcasting,
Mike Grace, will return for his 10th year as Executive Producer of the Samford Sports Network and "Voice of the Bulldogs", while Chad Pilcher returns for his second season on the broadcast crew as color commentator for football broadcasts. Long-time Birmingham Barons announcer Curt Bloom will serve as the sideline reporter for road games, while former Samford player Jay Galloway will handle sideline duties for home games.
Samford opens the 2016 season on Thursday, Sept. 1, when the Bulldogs host Mars Hill at Seibert Stadium. The game is scheduled for a 6 p.m. start from Seibert Stadium.
