BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford women's tennis team earned a 7-0 win over Kennesaw State in the Bulldogs' home opener Sunday at the Samford Tennis Complex.
 
Samford swept the three doubles matches to earn the first point of the contest. At No. 1 doubles, Annika Hepp and Ellie Gerlach defeated Laura Hopton and Kennedy Craig, 6-3. Savannah Wood and Arianna Beltrame earned a 6-1 win over Cristina PerezMartin and Aspen Jarrett on the No. 2 doubles court. At No. 3 doubles, Elsa Pool and Georgina Jupp defeated Jessica Cantrell and Jada Tijani, 6-3.
 
In singles, Wood defeated Hopton, 7-6, 6-2 at the No. 1 court. Gerlach earned a 7-5, 6-1 victory over PrezMartin at No. 2 singles. On the No. 3 singles court, Pool defeated Craig, 7-6, 6-4.
 
At No. 4 singles, Beltrame defeated Tijani, 6-2, 6-2. Nadine de Villiers earned a 6-4, 5-7, 10-8 win over Jarrett at No. 5 singles. At No. 6 singles, Hepp defeated Cantrell, 6-1, 7-6.
 
With the win, Samford improves to 1-1 on the young season. Kennesaw State falls to 0-1 with the loss.
 
Samford will return to action on Feb. 1, when the Bulldogs host Alabama-Huntsville. The match is scheduled for a 6 p.m. start from the Samford Tennis Complex.
