CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. -- The Samford University volleyball team earned a thrilling 26-24 victory in Friday's first set on the road against the Chattanooga Mocs, but the momentum proved to be short-lived as the Bulldogs dropped the next three frames and suffered a 3-1 (26-24, 22-25, 17-25, 19-25) loss in an early-season Southern Conference match held in Maclellan Gymnasium.
 
With Friday's defeat, 
Samford (8-11, 3-2 SoCon) had its three-match winning streak snapped in conference play. The Bulldogs have played 13 of their last 16 matches away from home and own a 6-7 record when competing outside of the friendly confines of the Pete Hanna Center.
 
Heading into the match, Samford had reeled off consecutive SoCon triumphs against league-powers Wofford, 3-1, Western Carolina, 3-1, and UNCG, 3-2.
 
Chattanooga (10-9, 3-2 SoCon) was paced by Ally Ford and Miranda Elpers with 19 and 17 kills, respectively. With their win, the Mocs bounced back from a 3-0 loss at Furman on Saturday.
 
After winning the first set Friday, 26-24, Samford seemingly gained momentum in the contest, but Chattanooga rallied behind a vocal home crowd to take the next three frames.
 
The Bulldogs' 
Krista Boesing finished with a team-high 18 kills, while 
Kelsi Hobbs reached double figures with 11. Junior setter 
Taylor Anderton accumulated 39 assists and 12 for a double-double. Hobbs also posted a double-double with 15 digs to go along with her 11 kills.
 
Samford's 
Grace Tiesman finished the game with a match-high 24 digs.
 
The Samford University volleyball team will next be in action Saturday at 7 p.m. (CT) as the Bulldogs conclude their arduous four-match SoCon road swing against the ETSU Buccaneers in Johnson City, Tennessee.
