CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Samford women's tennis team fell by a score of 4-3 to Massachusetts Thursday afternoon at College of Charleston's Patriots Point.
 
UMass won the doubles matches on court No. 2 and No. 3. The match on the No. 1 doubles court was not finishes.
 
Samford won the singles matches at No. 1, No. 2 and No. 5. UMass, however, claimed wins at No. 3, No. 4 and No. 6 to secure the 4-3 victory.
 
At No. 1 singles, Ellie Gerlach defeated Janja Kovacevic, 6-2, 6-4. On the No. 2 singles court, Elsa Pool earned a 7-5, 6-2 win over Ruth Crawford. At No. 5 singles, Annika Hepp defeated Laura Moreno, 6-4, 7-6.
 
With the loss, Samford falls to 8-6 so far this season. UMass improves to 6-6 with the win.
 
Samford will return to action on March 22, when the Bulldogs open Southern Conference play with a match at Mercer. The match is set to begin at 2:30 p.m. in Macon, Ga.
