BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- The Samford University baseball team extended its home winning streak to seven-consecutive games Saturday as the Bulldogs earned a 7-3 nonconference triumph against the Eastern Michigan Eagles in the second contest of this weekend's three-game series being held at Joe Lee Griffin Field.

Samford (12-6) improved to 9-2 when playing at home this season. The Bulldogs' last loss in Birmingham occurred over two weeks ago on March 3. Since then, Samford has earned two wins against Indiana, swept a three-game series with Eastern Illinois and has been victorious in the first two outings versus
Eastern Michigan (3-15) this weekend.

Sunday's series finale is scheduled to begin at noon (CT) at Joe Lee Griffin Field. The game will be Bulldog Fan Appreciation Day, therefore admission will be
FREE for everyone.

On Saturday, Samford jumped out to an early 4-0 lead with two runs in the second and two more in the third. The Bulldogs then added single scores in the fourth, seventh and eighth.

The Eagles didn't touch home plate until the fourth inning when they used a solo home run from John Montgomery to break up
Jesse McCord's perfect game. Montgomery's round-tripper proved to be his team-leading third of the season and trimmed Samford's lead to 4-1.

The Bulldogs'
McCord (2-2) started the game on the mound and hurled six full innings of two-run ball. Samford's talented sophomore transfer from Mississippi State registered six strikeouts in the game and only allowed four hits.

Down the stretch, the Bulldogs also received solid pitching performances from senior
Jared Brasher and juniors
Erin Baldwin and
Wyatt Burns. Brasher struck out three straight hitters in his lone inning, while Burns came on in the ninth inning with the bases loaded tallied his nation-leading eighth save of the season.

Already this year, Burns has earned 12 strikeouts in 11 appearances and boasts a 1.65 earned run average.

Senior centerfielder
T.J. Dixon extended his hitting streak to 17 straight games with a 2-for-4 performance at the plate. The Bulldogs' speedy native of Mobile, also drove in three of Samford's seven runs in the game.

True freshman
Taylor Garris finished 3-for-3 at the plate Saturday, while
Ayrton Schafer was also perfect with a 2-for-2 outing and two runs scored. Samford's
Kevin Williams, Jr., and
Austin Edens registered a pair of hits against Eastern Michigan, including a pair of deep home run blasts over the left-field wall.
Already this season, Williams, Jr., leads the team with eight home runs, while Edens has powered five. Samford's
Anthony Mulrine also posted a base hit in Saturday's contest.

Eastern Michigan's
Brad Allen (0-3) started the game and allowed five earned runs on seven hits. He was saddled with the loss.

Samford and Eastern Michigan will square off in the third-and-final game of this weekend's series Sunday at noon (CT) at Joe Lee Griffin Field. The contest was moved up to its noon start time in order to give the Eagles a head start on traveling back home to Ypsilanti, Michigan.
