STARKVILLE, Miss. – The Samford softball team will continue tournament play by competing in the Bulldog Slamboree, hosted by Mississippi State this weekend.
Samford will take on Central Arkansas (12:30 p.m.) and Mississippi State (3 p.m.) on Friday, and Massachusetts (10 a.m.) on Saturday. Following the first Saturday games, the teams will be seeded according to their tournament record, and the teams will play additional Saturday and Sunday games, based on seeding, to conclude the tournament.
Samford has opened the 2017 season with three-straight five-game weekend tournaments. The Bulldogs enter this weekend's action with a record of 4-11.
Last weekend, Samford co-hosted the Samford/UAB Classic. In the tournament, Samford earned wins over Iowa State (6-2) and Indiana (4-2), and the Bulldogs suffered two losses to Murray State (11-0, 3-2 in 8 inn.), and one to UAB (10-2).
So far this season,
Shelby Maze leads Samford with a .463 batting average.
Madison Couch is hitting .333, while
Abbie Miranda has a .294 average with five doubles, a home run and a team-high 13 RBI.
In the circle for Samford,
Grey Adams has a 3.20 ERA in 50.1 innings, a 3-3 record and a team-high 34 strikeouts.
Taylor DeCelles has tossed 26.1 innings, and has a 4.52 ERA and a 1-3 record.
Central Arkansas is currently 4-10 entering this weekend's tournament after a 6-5 loss to Houston Baptist Sunday. Mississippi State has a record of 12-3, and MSU will host Alabama State Thursday night prior to hosting the tournament. Massachusetts is currently 2-8 coming off a 5-4 loss to St. Francis Sunday afternoon.
