LAWRENCE, Kan. -- For the second straight season, the Samford University baseball team earned a three-game weekend series victory against the Kansas Jayhawks. This year, the Bulldogs secured the series win on the road at Hoglund Ballpark with brilliant pitching performances and clutch hitting. Samford defeated Kansas, 6-1, on Sunday to triumph in the rubber game of the three-game set.

With Sunday's win,
Samford (15-9) improved to 12-4 in its last 16 outings. The Bulldogs' young, talent-laden roster has been victorious in five of its six three-game weekend series' this year.

Samford's only loss in a series occurred on the road at No. 5-ranked Florida State, Feb. 24-26.

The Bulldogs' series' victories this season have come against UNC Asheville (2-1), Indiana (2-1), Eastern Illinois (3-0), Eastern Michigan (2-1) and
Kansas (10-13), 2-1.

After losing Friday's series opener to the Jayhawks, 6-4, Samford rebounded with back-to-back road victories of 8-6 and 6-1. The Bulldogs are now 5-6 when playing away from home this season.

Samford received brilliant pitching performances Sunday from starter
Stephen Jones (2-1),
Josh Rich and
Erin Baldwin. Jones turned in his best outing of the season and hurled six full innings of one-run baseball. The Bulldogs' talented sophomore from Tallahassee, Florida, only allowed five base hits in the contest, while striking out six Jayhawks.

Samford scored three runs in the fifth and two more in the sixth to build a nice 5-1 advantage for Jones en route to his second victory of the season.

The Bulldogs'
Josh Rich pitched the seventh and eighth frames Sunday and didn't allow a single baserunner. Samford's right-hander from Hoover, Alabama, struck out three of the six Kansas players that he faced in the outing.

With a 6-1 advantage in the bottom of the ninth, the Bulldogs turned to junior right-hander
Erin Baldwin, who nicely shut the door on the Jayhawks as Samford secured its 15
th victory of the young season.

Baldwin easily retired all three hitters that he faced in the ninth.

Offensively, Samford was buoyed by
T.J. Dixon,
Jordan Fucci,
Troy Dixon and
Sam Teague on Sunday.
T.J. Dixon upped his team-leading batting average on the season to .354 with a stellar 3-for-5 outing. The Bulldogs' senior centerfielder also drove in a pair of huge runs with a bases-loaded double to right field in the fifth inning.

T.J. Dixon's double really turned the momentum of the ballgame. Samford added another run in the frame and increased its decisive lead at the time to 3-1.

The Bulldogs' Fucci finished 3-for-4 at the dish Sunday with a pair of runs scored, while
Troy Dixon went 2-for-5 and Teague drove home a key run on a 1-for-2 outing as the designated hitter.

Samford also received critical hits from
Branden Fryman and
Anthony Mulrine in the series-clinching victory over Kansas. Mulrine, the Bulldogs' impressive true freshman catcher, threw out a pair of runners attempting to steal Sunday. Already this season, Mulrine has thrown out 11 runners on the base paths.

The Samford University baseball team will next be in action Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. (CT) as the Bulldogs travel across town to Regions Park for a key intra-city matchup with the UAB Blazers.
