BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford softball team will play host to the Kennesaw State Owls Wednesday at 5 p.m. at the Samford Softball Stadium.
Samford enters the week with a record of 11-23 overall and 1-2 in Southern Conference play so far this season. The Bulldogs are coming off dropping two-of-three games to Furman in Samford's SoCon-opening series over the weekend.
At the plate, Samford has been led so far this season by center fielder
Shelby Maze, who leads the SoCon in both batting average (.467) and hits (56). Maze's 56 hits also rank second nationally.
Abby Sweeney is hitting .323 with a team-high six home runs and a team-high 29 RBI.
Madison Couch is batting .316, with 36 hits so far this season.
In the circle,
Jessica Stone has a team-leading 5-3 record, to go along with her 3.99 ERA.
Grey Adams has a team-best 3.18 ERA, and a team-best 69 strikeouts.
Kennesaw State comes into Wednesday's game with a record of 24-9 overall and 2-1 in Atlantic Sun contests. The Owls won two-of-three games at Stetson last weekend in the team's first A-Sun series of the season.
Samford and Kennesaw State have played 10 previous times, with KSU holding a 9-1 advantage in the series. The teams met last season, with Kennesaw State earning a 6-4 win in Birmingham.
Wednesday night also marks the conclusion of Samford Softball's "Your Yeti" Contest. Fans can register to win throughout the first inning and three finalists will be chosen prior to fourth inning. Each finalist will take home a Yeti Rambler, the 20-ounce stainless-steel tumbler. One of those lucky fans will leave the stadium with a Yeti Soft-Side Hopper 20, the leak-proof, ice-for-days, tough-as-nails cooler. The contest is open to both students and fans, but you must be present to win.
