JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. – The Samford men's tennis team dropped a 5-2 decision at East Tennessee State Saturday afternoon at the Dave Mullins Tennis Complex.
"We competed well today," Samford head coach
Rahim Esmail said. "We gave ourselves a chance to win but came up a little short. We won a couple of important tiebreakers and lost a couple as well - we needed one of those tiebreakers that we lost to go our way to give ourselves a better chance. We can definitely build off this match. "
Samford earned singles wins on the No. 4 and No. 6 courts. At No. 4,
Max Rebol defeated Juan Lugo, 7-6, 3-2 (retired). On the No. 6 court,
Hugo Moreira defeated Wenceslao Albin, 7-6, 5-2. ETSU earned wins at No. 1, No. 2, No. 3 and No. 5.
The Bucs swept the three doubles matches to finish with a 5-2 victory.
With the loss, Samford falls to 4-10 overall and 0-3 in Southern Conference play. ETSU improves to 9-6 overall and 4-0 in league matches.
