BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford men's tennis team earned a 4-3 Southern Conference win over Chattanooga Wednesday afternoon at the Samford Tennis Center.
 
Chattanooga won two of the three doubles matches to take the first point of the match. Samford then claimed singles wins at No. 1, No. 2, No. 3 and No. 5 to earn the 4-3 victory.
 
"We did a good job today of bouncing back after the doubles point," Samford head coach Rahim Esmail said. "Our level was not good enough in the doubles, as we made things way too complicated for ourselves. We did a good job in singles getting off to good starts on certain courts and finding ways to win tough first sets. After that, we kept our foot on the gas and won convincing second sets because we stayed on them and did not let them sneak back into those matches. I'm happy to get the win today."
At No. 1 singles, Justin Ghavami defeated Lucas Plesky, 6-4, 6-1. On the No. 2 singles court, Jake Faundez defeated Niklas Gerdes, 6-3, 6-2. At No. 3 singles, Eduardo Lourido Sanchez earned a 6-2, 6-1 win over Nic Wilson. Curran Verma defeated Derrick Brown at No. 5 singles, 6-3, 6-0.
 
With the win, Samford improves to 6-11 overall and 2-4 in SoCon play. Chattanooga falls to 5-16 overall and 0-7 in league matches.
 
Samford will wrap up the regular season by hosting The Citadel Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Samford Tennis Center.
