SOCON TOURNAMENT CENTRAL
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The sixth-seeded Samford men's tennis team will open play in the Southern Conference Tournament by taking on third-seeded Mercer Friday at 12 p.m. (CT) in Greenville, S.C.
The winner of the Samford-Mercer match will take on the Furman-The Citadel winner in Saturday's semifinals at 1 p.m. (CT). The championship match is set for Sunday at 12 p.m. (CT).
Samford finished the regular season with a record of 7-11 overall and 3-4 in SoCon matches. The Bulldogs have won their last three matches in a row and are coming off a 7-0 win over The Citadel last Saturday. Samford and Mercer met once this season, with Mercer earning a 5-2 win in Macon, Ga., on April 8.
Jake Faundez (9-7) and
Eduardo Lourido Sanchez (9-5) led the team this season.
Max Rebol, who was named to the SoCon's All-Freshman team, posted a record of 7-9 during the regular season.
Justin Ghavami had a record of 6-11, while
Curran Verma went 5-13 during the regular season.
Hugo Moreira posted a record of 5-9, while
Austin Heinz went 0-1 this season.
Mercer enters the tournament with a record of 20-5 overall and 5-2 in league matches. The Bears are coming off a 4-1 non-conference loss at Kennesaw State on April 12. Mercer's last SoCon match was a 4-3 loss at Furman on April 10.
