GAME NOTES
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford softball team will host the Mercer Bears in a key three-game Southern Conference series this weekend at the Samford Softball Stadium. The teams are scheduled to play a doubleheader Saturday at 1 p.m. (CT), and a single game Sunday at 1 p.m. (CT).
Samford enters the weekend with a record of 19-28 overall and 7-5 in Southern Conference play. The Bulldogs dropped two-of-three games at UNCG over the weekend. In the midweek, Samford fell at UAB, 4-3 in eight innings.
At the plate, Samford has been led so far this season by center fielder
Shelby Maze, who leads the SoCon and ranks second in the nation in hits with 72. She also leads the SoCon in batting with a .426 average.
Madison Couch is hitting .322.
Abby Sweeney has a .318 average with a team-high seven home runs and a team-high 31 RBI.
Hannah Trombley and
Abbie Miranda have 28 RBI each.

Jessica Stone has a team-leading 8-6 record, to go along with her 3.14 ERA.
Grey Adams has a team-best 3.12 ERA, and a team-best 96 strikeouts. Adams has a record of 8-11.
Mercer comes into the weekend with a record of 20-26 overall and 6-6 in Southern Conference play. The Bears lost two-of-three games at Furman last weekend. Mercer fell in games one and two, 1-0 and 3-4 in 10 innings, before winning the third game by a score of 1-0.
Samford and Mercer have played 59 previous times, with Samford holding a 33-26 advantage in the series. Samford defeated Mercer four times last season. After sweeping the regular-season series, Samford earned a 2-0 win over Mercer in the SoCon Tournament semifinals.
Saturday's game is the Alzheimer's and Dementia Awareness game. The team will wear purple jerseys, and the jerseys will be auctioned during the game, with all proceeds going to The Alzheimer's Association. Purple bracelets will also be given for a donation to The Alzheimer's Association. There will also be a pre-game ceremony to honor all players and coaches who have been affected by Alzheimer's or dementia.
Sunday's game will be Senior Day for the Bulldogs. Samford's five seniors,
Grey Adams,
Rebecca Leonard,
Abbie Miranda,
Jessica Stone and
Abby Sweeney, will be honored in a ceremony prior to the game.
