MACON, Ga. – The Samford men's tennis team fell in a hard-fought Southern Conference match at Mercer by a score of 5-2 Saturday afternoon.
 
"Today was a tough match," Samford head coach Rahim Esmail said. "It was very competitive from both sides. Mercer played well in the big moments."
 
After losing the No. 1 doubles match, Samford came back to win on courts No. 2 and No. 3 to earn the first point of the match. At No. 2 doubles, Max Rebol and Curran Verma defeated Nicolas Guillon and Fernando Guardia, 6-2. On the No. 3 doubles court, Eduardo Lourido Sanchez and Hugo Moreira defeated Ruben Vanoppen and Stathis Tsiranidis, 6-4.
 
In singles, Jake Faundez earned a 0-6, 7-5, 7-5 win over Sam Pilp on the No. 2 court. Mercer, however earned wins at No. 1, No. 3, No. 4, No. 5 and No. 6 to secure the 5-2 victory.
 
With the loss, Samford falls to 4-11 overall and 0-4 in Southern Conference matches. Mercer improves to 20-3 overall and 5-1 in SoCon action.
 
Samford will host UNCG Sunday. The match is set for a 12 p.m. start from the Samford Tennis Center.
