KENNESAW, Ga. -- The Samford University soccer team will take to the road for the first time in over two weeks Sunday as the Bulldogs travel east on I-20 to square off against the Kennesaw State Owls at 5 p.m. (CT) in a critical early-season showdown to be held at Fifth Third Bank Stadium.

Samford (1-4-0) heads into the matchup with a bit of positive momentum after the Bulldogs posted their most lopsided victory since Oct. 29, 2016, on Friday in a 5-0 triumph over Alabama State. Samford dominated possession in the matchup and outshot Alabama State, 39-3, in the victory. The Bulldogs rattled off 20 shot attempts in the first half and added 19 more in the second stanza.

The win proved to be Samford's largest margin of victory since last season when the Bulldogs topped VMI at home, 5-0, in the quarterfinal round of the SoCon Tournament.

On Friday, Samford's offensive attack was paced by junior Korrie Sauder who came off the bench to tally two goals on six shot attempts in 51 minutes of action. The Bulldogs' Ella Baggett, Jermaine Seoposenwe and Kaitlyn Orman also added goals.

So far this season, Samford has faced one of the toughest nonconference schedules in the nation. The Bulldogs opened their 2017 campaign with matches against Memphis, Alabama, No. 4 Florida State and Michigan State.

Kennesaw State (3-0-2) remained undefeated on the season Friday with a 1-0 home victory against Morehead State. Senior Ashtah Das produced the game-winner when she received a cross from sophomore Emely Sosa and found the back of the net from inside the box at the 20:26 mark. It proved to be her second goal of the season.

The Owls' hot start to the 2017 season marks the first time Kennesaw State has been unbeaten through five games since the 2003 team opened 8-0 en route to the NCAA Division II national championship.

With Friday's 1-0 victory over Morehead State, Kennesaw State also posted its third consecutive shutout, a feat accomplished for the first time since the 2009 season. The program record for consecutive shutouts is eight set by the 2003 team. The Division I record is five accomplished in 2006.

Kennesaw State's wins this season have come against Georgia State, 4-3, Mercer, 2-0, and Morehead State, 1-0, while the Owls have also played to draws with Winthrop, 1-1, and Georgia Southern, 0-0.

Last season, Samford faced Kennesaw State at home on Sept. 16, and earned a 3-1 victory. The Bulldogs' Abriella Argueta, Courtney Hendrickson and Taylor Borman all scored goals in the win.

All-time, Samford owns a 6-2 record against the Owls.

Following Sunday's nonconference showdown at Kennesaw State, the Samford University soccer team will next be in action Friday at 7 p.m. (CT) as the Bulldogs return home to Birmingham, Alabama, for a highly-anticipated matchup against the Georgia Bulldogs to be held at the Samford Track and Soccer Stadium.

Admission is FREE to all home regular-season Samford soccer matches.
