CULLOWHEE, N.C. -- The Samford University volleyball team finished with four players earning double-digit kills Friday as the Bulldogs posted a pivotal 3-1 road victory against the Western Carolina Catamounts in a key Southern Conference showdown held at the Ramsey Center.

Samford (7-10, 2-1 SoCon) was paced by sophomore
Kelsi Hobbs with a game-high 17 kills, while junior outside hitter
Krista Boesing followed closely with 16. The Bulldogs also received momentous double-digit kill performances from
Shayla Phillip and
Kendal Strand, who tallied 11 and 10, respectively.

The 3-1 victory proved to be the second straight for the resurgent Samford squad, which also dispatched of Wofford in conference play Saturday.

On Friday, the Bulldogs earned a 25-22 win in the first set against
Western Carolina (6-10, 1-2 SoCon) and set the tone for the match. Samford registered a .281 hitting percentage in the frame en route to the victory.

The Catamounts, behind the play of Abigail Veit, Jo-Leigh VerVelde and Meagan Sanchez, were able to win the second stanza, 25-19, but then the Bulldogs bounced back for consecutive wins of 25-18 and 27-25 to secure the victory.

Samford's
Taylor Anderton, the Bulldogs' talented junior setter, accumulated a match-high 56 assists in the win, while Strand (21),
Grace Tiesman (20) and
Morgan St. Germain (11) all registered double-digit digs in the contest.

The Samford University volleyball team will next be in action Saturday at 4 p.m. (CT) as the Bulldogs continue their two-match SoCon weekend road swing against the UNCG Spartans in another critical matchup. Saturday's contest will be held in Fleming Gym in Greensboro.
