BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford men's tennis team will open the 2018 spring season with a pair of matches this weekend. The Bulldogs will play at Alabama Saturday at 1 p.m., and the team will host Kennesaw State Sunday at 11 a.m.
Samford boasts a veteran lineup this season. All but five wins in singles return from last season, led be seniors
Jake Faundez (10-7),
Justin Ghavami (6-11) and
Eduardo Lourido (9-6). Sophomores
Hugo Moreira (5-10) and
Max Rebol (7-10) and senior
Austin Heinz (0-1) also return from last season.
Senior newcomer
Luke Orthner, and freshmen
Aleksandar Petrovic and
Rossouw Norval join the squad this season as well. Orthner and Petrovic were both with the team this fall, and Norval was added to the roster this spring.
As a team, Samford posted a record of 7-12 last spring. The Bulldogs were 3-4 in the always tough Southern Conference.
Samford and Alabama opened the 2017 spring season as well, with the Crimson Tide taking a 4-0 victory. Samford and Kennesaw State last played in the spring of 2016, with the Bulldogs earning a 4-0 victory.
