Men’s and Women’s Cross-Country shine at JSU Foothills Invitational

OXFORD, Ala. – Both Samford cross-country teams participated nearby in Jacksonville State University's 13^th Annual Foothills Invitational and continued to compete exceptionally against their competition.

The women's team won the meet and finished with an average time of 22:32.88, beating in-state opponents such as Troy, Alabama State, Jacksonville State, and others. 10 Bulldogs competed in the meet and all placed in the Top 40. Shian Mallory once again took home the individual first-place spot in the Women's 5K, finishing with a time of 18:20.70. Kathryn Foreman finished right behind her at third with a time of 18:40.60. Allie Nelson and Mary Grace Strozier finished fifth and sixth with times of 18:55.60 and 19:07.60 respectively. Taryn Donahue placed just outside the Top 10 at 11^thand with the time of 19:20.60. Mary Kellison Thorne, Carter Marchbanks, and Veronica Lyle finished 21^st, 22^nd and 23^rd in the meet all within four seconds of each other with times of 19:36.10, 19:37.20, and 19:40.20. Anna Huntington and Lauren Granier finished the day for the Bulldogs with times of 20:12.90 and 20:25.00 coming in 31^st and 39^th.

The men's team also won the meet and finished with an average time of 22:32.88 and saw the top three individual runners come from Samford. Dillon Dean continued his junior season by once again winning the meet individually and finishing with a time of 22:02.40. Owen Bailey and Ben Bryant finished behind him in second and third with times of 22:23.30 and 22:29.30. Ben Garner finished eighth with a time of 22:52.60 and Paul Richardson rounded out the Top 10 placing 10^th with a time of 22:56.80. Brad Cheek finished the quick day for the Bulldogs by placing 11^th in 22:58.40. The men's team finished the 7k run with a total time of 1:52:44.40, defeating the next opponent by over two minutes.

Both the men's and women's cross-country teams were picked to finish third in the Southern Conference preseason poll. The teams will once again be close to home at the UAB Blazer Classic in Montevallo, Alabama on Friday, October 12.
