CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Samford men's tennis team picked up its first Southern Conference win of the season in a 5-2 victory at The Citadel Wednesday afternoon at the Earle Tennis Center.
 
Samford swept the three doubles matches to pick up the first point of the match. At No. 1 doubles, Jake Faundez and Eduardo Lourido defeated Noah Nawabi and Gavin Stewart, 6-0. On the No. 2 doubles court, Rossouw Norval and Justin Ghavami picked up a 6-2 win over Matthew Henson and Will Graham. At No. 3 doubles, Aleksandar Petrovic and Hugo Moreira defeated Jack Pyritz and Willem Van Zyl, 6-0.
 
In singles, Samford won the matches at No. 1, No. 2, No. 3 and No. 4 to earn the 5-2 win. At No. 1 singles, Faundez defeated Henson, 6-1, 6-2. At the No. 2 position, Lourido defeated Nawabi, 6-1, 6-3.
 
On the No. 3 singles court, Norval earned a 7-5, 6-1 win over Van Zyl. At No. 4 singles, Petrovic defeated Pyritz, 6-2, 6-2.
 
With the win, Samford improves to 6-7 overall and 1-2 in SoCon play. The Citadel falls to 7-17 overall and 0-3 in league matches.
 
Samford will return to action Sunday, March 18, when the Bulldogs host Alabama-Huntsville in a pair of matches. The first match is set to begin at 10 a.m. at the Samford Tennis Center.
