BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford men's tennis team opened Southern Conference play with a 6-1 setback to ETSU Friday afternoon at the Samford Tennis Center.
ETSU earned the doubles point with wins on the No. 2 and No. 3 doubles courts. Samford won on the No. 1 doubles court, with
Jake Faundez and
Eduardo Lourido defeating Juan Lugo and Tasei Miyamoto, 6-4.
In singles, Samford's
Justin Ghavami defeated Lugo, 3-6, 6-4, 1-0 on the No. 2 singles court. ETSU, however, earned the wins at No. 1, No. 3, No. 4, No. 5 and No. 6 to pull away for the 6-1 win.
With the loss, Samford falls to 4-5 overall and 0-1 in Southern Conference play. ETSU improves to 6-4 overall and 2-0 in league play.
Samford will return to action Sunday when the Bulldogs host Eastern Kentucky. The match is scheduled for a 2 p.m. start at the Samford Tennis Center. Admission to the match is FREE.
