BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford men's tennis team dropped a 6-1 decision to Mercer Friday afternoon at the Samford Tennis Center.
Samford took the match at No. 2 doubles, with
Rossouw Norval and
Justin Ghavami defeating Ruben Vanoppen and Nicolas Guillon, 6-2. Mercer, however won the No. 1 and No. 3 doubles matches to earn the first point of the match.
In singles, Samford's
Aleksandar Petrovic earned a 7-6, 2-6, 1-0 win over Ruben Vanoppen on the No. 5 court. Mercer picked up wins at No. 1, No. 2, No. 3, No. 4 and No. 6 singles to secure the 6-1 win.
With the loss, Samford falls to 8-8 overall and 1-3 in Southern Conference play. Mercer improves to 11-5 overall and 3-0 in league matches.
Samford will return to action Sunday when the Bulldogs play at Louisville. The match is set to begin at 4 p.m. (CT).
