CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – The Samford men's tennis team earned a 5-2 road Southern Conference win at Chattanooga Wednesday afternoon at the Champions Club.
 
"Today was a tough one," Samford head coach Rahim Esmail said. "Both teams fought really hard. Our young guys stepped up again today, which is promising. We are ready to get back to work tomorrow."
 
Samford picked up the doubles point with wins at the No. 2 and No. 3 positions. At No. 2, Justin Ghavami and Aleksandar Petrovic defeated Niklas Gerdes and Michael Birnbaum, 6-3. On the No. 3 doubles court, Max Rebol and Eduardo Lourido earned a 6-4 win over Pablo Llebeili and Luke Plaisted.
 
In singles, Samford pulled out wins at No. 3, No. 4, No. 5 and No. 6 to earn the 5-2 victory. At No. 3, Lourido defeated Llebeili, 6-2, 6-0. On the No. 4 singles court, Rossouw Norval defeated Luke Plaisted, 6-2, 6-2.
 
At No. 5 singles, Petrovic defeated Jacob Marshall, 7-6, 6-2. On the No. 6 singles court, Rebol earned a 4-6, 7-5, 6-4 win over Cooper Long.
 
With the win, Samford improves to 9-10 overall and 2-4 in SoCon play. Chattanooga falls to 8-14 overall and 1-5 in league matches.
 
Samford will wrap up its regular season by hosting Wofford Saturday at the Samford Tennis Center. The match is set for a 12 p.m. start and admission is FREE!
