SOCON TOURNAMENT BRACKET

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford men's tennis team picked up a 5-2 win over Wofford on Senior Day for the Bulldogs Saturday at the Samford Tennis Center.
 
"Today was a special day," Samford head coach Rahim Esmail said. "The boys really got up for it, and they did a great job of competing for each other. The seniors competed hard on and off the court, as they always have done. I am pleased with the way we competed today, and we will continue working towards getting better this week before our conference tournament."
 
Prior to the match, seniors Jake Faundez, Justin Ghavami, Eduardo Lourido, Austin Heinz and Luke Orthner were honored for their final home match at Samford.
 
Samford improves to 10-10 overall and 3-4 in Southern Conference play with the win. Wofford falls to 10-10 overall and 2-5 in league matches.
 
The Southern Conference Tournament will take place April 20-22 in Chattanooga, Tenn. Samford has earned the No. 5 seed for the tournament and will take on the fourth-seeded UNCG Spartans in the first round Friday at 7:30 a.m. (CT). In Saturday's match, Samford won the No. 1 and No. 3 doubles matches to pick up the first point of the match. At No. 1, Faundez and Rossouw Norval defeated John Crawford and Julian Chousa, 6-2. At No. 3 doubles, Max Rebol and Lourido defeated Jack Thomas and Omar Williams, 6-1.
 
In singles, Samford claimed wins at No. 2, No. 4, No. 5 and No. 6 to secure the 5-2 win. At No. 2, Ghavami earned a 6-3, 4-6, 1-0 win over Chousa. On the No. 4 singles court, Norval defeated Parks Schoen, 6-2, 6-3.
 
On the No. 5 singles court, Aleksandar Petrovic defeated Williams, 6-1, 6-3. At No. 6 singles, Rebol defeated Kyle Barr, 6-2, 6-0.
