BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford men's tennis team dropped a 5-2 decision to Furman Saturday afternoon at the Samford Tennis Center.
 
"Today was a hard-fought match for both teams," Samford head coach Rahim Esmail said. "We had our chances in the doubles point, and at certain points in singles. We just have to keep at it and keep working hard. Our freshmen did a great job today, they have continued to get better. We are looking forward to the next challenge at Chattanooga next week."
 
Furman won the doubles matches at No. 1 and No. 3 to earn the first point of the match. Samford earned the win at No. 2 doubles, where Rossouw Norval and Justin Ghavami defeated Trevor Croyder and Clarke Wilson, 7-6.
 
In singles, Samford earned wins at No. 4 and No. 5, but Furman picked up the matches at No. 1, No. 2, No. 3 and No. 6 to finish off the 5-2 win.
 
At No. 4 singles, Norval defeated Drew Singerman, 1-6, 6-4, 6-3. On the No. 5 singles court, Aleksandar Petrovic defeated Jake Bhangdia, 7-5, 6-2.
 
With the loss, Samford falls to 8-10 overall and 1-4 in Southern Conference play. Furman improves to 16-6 overall and 4-1 in league matches.
 
Samford will play at Chattanooga Wednesday, April 11. The match is set to begin at 1 p.m. (CT) from Chattanooga, Tenn.
