David Named AlaBCA Assistant Coach Of The Year

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Samford Associate Head Coach Tony David will be named the Alabama Baseball Coach Association (AlaBCA) Assistant Coach of the Year at the organization's annual awards banquet tonight.

In 2018, David helped lead the team to 37 wins, and the program's second Southern Conference Tournament title. The Bulldogs also reached the program's second NCAA Tournament.

Samford was sent to the NCAA Tallahassee Regional, where the Bulldogs defeated seventh-ranked Florida State, 7-6, in the first round.

David, who serves as the staff's recruiting coordinator, helped bring in a recruiting class with two Freshman All-Americans and three SoCon All-Freshman team members. The Team finished near the top of the SoCon defensively posting a .972 fielding percentage in SoCon play.

The 2018 season was David's 14th as a member of the Samford coaching staff. He has helped lead the program to multiple 30-win seasons, two SoCon Tournament titles (2012 and 2018), two NCAA Tournament bids (2012 and 2018) and an Ohio Valley Conference regular season title (2006).

The 2019 Bulldogs will open their season Feb. 15-17, with a series at South Florida. The team's home opener is scheduled for Feb. 19 vs. North Alabama at 4 p.m.
