SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Samford track and field's
Karisa Nelson was named the Southern Conference's Athlete of the Week for the third straight week on Wednesday.
Selections were made and decided upon by panels consisting of the Southern Conference's men's and women's track and field coaches.
While the Samford track and field team did not compete this past weekend, Nelson competed at the prestigious Dr. Sander Invitational at the Armory in New York City.
Nelson ran in the women's mile event and placed second overall with a time of 4:34.81. At the time of this posting, that is the sixth-best overall time in all the NCAA this season.
She'll compete once again in New York at the Millrose Games where she will again run the mile on Saturday, February 9
th.
The Samford track and field team as a whole will be back in action at the Jaguar Open this Sunday, February 3
rd at the Birmingham Crossplex.
