McKnight Taken In XFL Draft

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—Samford wide receiver Kelvin McKnight was selected by the Dallas Renegades in the sixth round of the XFL Draft Tuesday morning.
 
The XFL is a new professional football league that will begin play on Feb. 8, 2020. Teams in the new league include the Dallas Renegades, Houston Roughnecks, Los Angeles Wildcats, New York Guardians, St. Louis BattleHawks, Seattle Dragons, Tampa Bay Vipers and D.C. Defenders.
 
McKnight was the 45th pick overall in the skill phase of the draft. A total of 80 skill position players were taken in the event.
 
McKnight ended his Samford career as the school's all-time leader in career receiving yards (4,144), receptions (313) and touchdown receptions (32). This season, McKnight caught 100 passes for 1,453 yards and nine touchdowns. He had at least 100 receiving yards in 10 of Samford's 11 games during his senior season.
 
Earlier in the spring, McKnight was undrafted free agent with the Denver Broncos and later saw time on the practice squad for the New England Patriots.
