BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford men's tennis team dropped a 5-1 decision to South Alabama Saturday evening at the Samford Tennis Center.
"South Alabama is a good team," Samford head coach Rahim Esmail said. "They are very strong top to bottom, and you really have to work to beat them. Max did a great job today – he played to win, and did not wait for his opponent to give him anything. He stepped up when it was close and played with a lot of energy and conviction."
With the loss, Samford falls to 3-4 on the season. South Alabama improves to 3-2 with the win.
South Alabama won the doubles matches at No. 1 and No. 2 to earn the first point of the match.
In singles, Samford earned a win at No. 4, with
Max Rebol defeating Sam Serrano, 6-4, 7-5. South Alabama, however, won on courts No. 1, No. 2, No. 3 and No. 5 to secure the 5-1 victory.
Samford will host Alabama A&M on Friday, Jan. 15. The match is set for a 2 p.m. start at the Samford Tennis Center, and admission is FREE!
