ORLANDO, Fla. – The Samford men's tennis team picked up a 4-1 victory over Youngstown State Monday afternoon at Sanlando Park.
 
With the win, Samford improves to 7-6 on the season. Youngstown State falls to 5-5 with the loss.
 
"Today was a tough battle," Samford head coach Rahim Esmail said. "The boys competed hard today. We did a great job in the singles. Sami has clinched two of the past three matches by a score of 7-6 in the third. He has showed a lot of mental toughness in those situations. The team is continuing to show growth, and we look to continue to improve tomorrow when we play North Dakota."
 
Youngstown State won the doubles matches at No. 1 and No. 2 to secure the first point of the match.
 
In singles, Samford earned victories at No. 1, No. 2, No. 3 and No. 4 to secure the 4-1 victory. Sami Kirberg clinched the victory with his 3-6, 6-2, 7-6 win over Joao Garretto on the No. 3 singles court.
 
Samford will remain in Orlando, Fla. to take on North Dakota Tuesday. The match is set for an 11 a.m. start. A full recap and results will be posted to www.samfordsports.com following the completion of the match.
