Raleigh, N.C.. – Samford University's track and field team competed in their second outdoor meet of the season in Raleigh, North Carolina at the Raleigh Relays this past weekend. The meet took place over two days on Friday and Saturday.
In the women's 100 meter dash, sophomore
Hannah Lueders and freshman
Vada Samuels each finished in the top 50. Lueders finished 19
th overall with a 12.28 second time and Samuels finished 44
th with a 12.58 second time. Lueders and Samuels also competed in the women's 200 meter dash where Lueders finished in the top eight at seventh. She had a 24.54 second time and Samuels finished 15
th with a 25.67 time.
Samuels again competed in the 400 meter where she placed 28
th after posting a 57.46 second time.
On the men's side of the sprints,
Emmanuel Tait,
Titus Moore, and
Jack McHugh each competed in the men's 100 meter dash. Tait finished 14
th with a 10.76 second time. Moore and McHugh finished 31
st and 39
th overall with times of 11.07 and 11.21 seconds.
Tait placed in the top ten of the 200 meter dash after a 21.56 second time giving him 9
th overall in the event.
Jordan Woodbine competed for Samford in the 400 meter run. The freshman finished 24
th with a 49.43 second time.
In the 1500 meter run on the women's side,
Mary Grace Strozier and
Shian Mallory both competed for the Bulldogs. Strozier finished with a time of 4:33.78 good enough to be in the top 50 at 49
th. Mallory finished at 59
th after posting a 4:35.01 time in the event, which included over 150 participants.
Owen Bailey competed in the men's division of the 1500 meter. Bailey finished 48
th overall with a 3:54.07 time.
Both
Dillon Dean and
Brad Cheek ran the 10,000 meter for Samford. The juniors each finished in the top 50. Dean finished 32
nd with a 30:37.76 time while Cheek finished 42
nd with a 31:13.20 time.
In the women's 100 meter hurdles,
Sarah Sanford placed 18
th with a time of 14.78.
Amanda Dumar and
Lauren Beard also competed for Samford and placed 42
nd and 44
th with times of 15.81 and 15.97 respectively. Each competed in the 400 meter hurdles event as well and placed in the top 25 of it. Sanford finished 11
th with a time of 1:02.23, Dumar finished 17
th with a time of 1:03.22, and Beard finished 23
rd with a time of 1:04.00.
The men's 110 meter hurdles event saw two Bulldogs in the top three and four Bulldogs in the top 15. Tait and Moore finished first and third overall with times of 14.34 and 14.44 seconds respectively.
Michael McMahan and McHugh placed 11
th and 14
th overall with times of 14.94 and 15.01.
Two more Bulldogs finished in the top six of the 400 meter hurdles.
Jordan Oballe and McMahan finished fifth and sixth overall with times of 53.81 and 53.99 in the event. Sophomore
Warren Fitzpatrick also competed and finished 24
th with a time of 56.68.
The men's 3000 meter steeplechase only had one Bulldog compete. Ben Garner finished 42
nd overall with a 9:23.40 time.
Samford's women's team excelled in the women's 1600 sprint medley relay. The team, made up of
Hannah Lueders,
Vada Samuels,
Selena Popp and
Veronica Lyle, finished second among all teams after posting a time of 4:01.69. On the men's side, Samford finished seventh overall. The race was run by freshman
Jake Diggs, Oballe, Fitzpatrick and freshman
Seth Corey. The four together put a time of 3:30.66 on the board.
In the men's 4x400 meter relay, Samford's team was Woodbine, Diggs, Oballe and Fitzpatrick. The team finished sixth overall with a 3:17.42 time. In the 4x1500 meter relay, Samford's team was Bailey,
Jake Maddox,
Hunter Poole, and Garner. The group posted a 16:26.44 time and finished 14
th overall in the event.
In field events,
Charlotte Krause finished sixth overall in the women's high jump. The junior from Samford posted a jump of 1.60 meters. On the men's side, senior
Keyth Fightmaster finished second overall with a 2.00 meter jump.
Krause also competed in the women's triple jump and went for 11.14 meters, landing her a 29
th place finish in the event. Noash Osburne finished 13
th with a 12.67 meter distance.
The men's high jump invite featured freshman
Justin Stuckey. He placed second with an official jump of 2.10 meters.
Two Bulldogs finished in the top ten in the women's pole vault event. Sophomores
Tally Wilson and
Jackie Barnes finished fifth and tenth with high vaults of 3.80 meters and 3.65 meters. The men's pole vault featured
Hunter Schlatter from Samford, who had a 4.42 meter high vault. HE finished 11
th overall.
The men's pole vault invite saw junior
Hugh Duggan take second overall. His 5.11 meters was a .20 meters above the next closest participant.
Erin Hines and
Madeline Ballard competed in the women's long jump for Samford. Hines finished with a distance of 5.53 meters, good enough for 13
th overall. Ballard finished 26
th after a 5.42 distance in the event. Thomas Ozburn competed for Samford in the men's divison. Ozburn posted a distance of 6.47 meters and finished 20
th.
In the women's shot put,
Maggie Johnston and
Tatiana Taylor of Samford finished 24
th and 26
th. Johnston finished with a long distance of 12.83 meters while Taylor finished with 12.60 meters.
Johnston also competed in the discus event where she threw 47.84 meters, landing her fourth overall in the event.
Both Taylor and Johnston competed in the women's hammer where they finished 22
nd and 24
th after throws of 46.25 meters and 45.97 meters.
Matt Cahoon threw in the discus event for the Bulldogs and finished 15
th overall. The sophomore had a distance thrown of 46.98 meters.
In the javelin throw, freshman Emorie Long threw for 33.54 meters and finished 28
th among those in the event.
Both the men's and women's track and field teams will be back in action this weekend at the Tiger Classic on the campus of Auburn University April 5-6.
